Hey all! It's been a while since I've written a blog post... I apologize. Even though I am no longer in school, the last month still managed to become quite busy with end of the year events and projects. In the midst of it all, though, I was able to continue creating some ceramic work. Actually, since my last post about creating a doumbek (a Middle-Eastern styled drum - the blog post is here if you haven't read it), I was asked to create a few more. I was even able to do an art trade with one for a beautiful Christine Swanson painting!
One of these special requests was to create a mini doumbek for our dear friends' one-year-old, Stieg. Of course, I could not say no! It was so fun experimenting with a smaller size, and to hear how much higher the sound was once the goat skin was attached.
What was even more fun, though, was giving the finished product to Stieg. Any excuse to hang out with Stieg and witness his charm is good enough for me!
I still have one more doumbek waiting to be wood fired, and I hope to create a few more! To be continued...
